Family Fun Friday

Date: Fridays
Time: 11 a.m.
Ages: All ages
Location: KidZone Museum
Cost: Free for members and with admission.

This is a play-based class designed to inspire and enrich kids’ brains, bodies and hearts. These classes are all about exploration and discovery, where curiosity is treasured and kids are encouraged to feel, touch and learn through sensory activities. Let your kid communicate through art and have some good, Family Fun Friday!

Friday, February 16 - Fizzy Dough
This multi-leveled sensory exploration and science experiment is a great entertainer as well as playful learning experience!

Friday, February 23 - Marbled Milk Paper
Combine art and science with this fun project! Simple chemistry yields beautiful results that you can hang up or use as a card.

Friday, March 2 - Clay Play
Most children love to squeeze and squish clay between their fingers. They like to roll it into snakes and balls, poke it with tools, and mold it into various shapes and sculptures. It’s a great opportunity to model or just explore.

Friday, March 9 - Sensory Play
From birth to early childhood, children use their senses to explore and try to make sense of the world around them. This leads to a childs ability to complete more complex learning tasks and supports cognitive growth, language development, gross motor skills, social interaction and problem solving skills. They do this by touching, tasting, smelling, seeing, moving and hearing.

Friday, March 16 - Cardboard Loom
This weaving activity with cardboard, yarn and natural materials will have children exploring measurements and texture concepts while they build on their fine motor skills!

Friday, March 23 - Rainsticks
A rainstick is a long, hollow tube partially filled with small pebbles or beans that has small pins or thorns arranged on its inside surface. When the stick is upended, the pebbles fall to the other end of the tube, making a sound reminiscent of rain falling. Come and create simplified rainsticks. They’re easy to make, kids love decorating them, and they sound great!

Friday, March 30 - Watercolor Exploration
Learn the possibilities of what watercolor can do in this artistic project with a scientific twist. Children will be introduced to the concepts of observation, prediction and testing.
